Chemical industry performance improves GDP dynamics

According to the National Statistics Committee, in January – May 2014 Belarus’ GDP increased by 1.5% over the same period in 2013.

Due to the high specific gravity of the chemical industry and the low comparative base in H2 2013, it is anticipated that industrial production indices will continue improving, as well as wholesale turnover indicators. This could compensate for the problems in agriculture, the expected poor performance in mechanical engineering, and a gradual slowdown in retail turnover. Qualitative growth pattern will not improve, stocks will continue growing, and any corrections to the potash production plans might significantly change the overall dynamics of the performance indicators in the industry.
