Due to focused pressure, Belarusian civil society is gradually transforming government attitudes

Following a petition launched by the Centre for Legal Transformation and the Assembly of NGOs, the Tax Ministry has abandoned the practice of involuntary closure of institutions. Organized pressure groups have been successful in defending public interests on some issues not immediately related to politics and which do not jeopardize the political leadership. Apparently, the authorities could gradually and carefully chose civil society interests to incorporate in the state policy, especially in relation to most controversial issues.
