Bialiatski: "Elections" In Belarus Have Become Massive Humiliation Of Human Dignity
No one believes in the results announced by the authorities.
As told by charter97.org reporter, this statement had been made by the leader of the human rights centre Viasna and a former political prisoner Ales Bialiatski as he addressed the conference “Warsaw Dialogue For Democracy”, organised by the Foreign Ministry of Poland.
“The recent “elections” in Belarus have become a massive humiliation of dignity, – the human rights activist stressed. – There have been no amendments to the law, to the mechanism of conducting elections. Students, teachers, doctors, military servicemen were driven to the early “voting.” Electoral mechanisms imitated tabulation of votes, in reality no one counted ballots. 83.5% of votes were given to Lukashenka, but no believes such figures. The results of the vote had been undoubtedly rigged. It didn’t cause mass protests, as the level of fear in the Belarusian society is high.”
