Construction and Architecture Ministry fights imports of construction materials with certification

Belarus’ Construction and Architecture Ministry has introduced a mandatory certification for construction materials imported from non-Customs’ Union member states.

Only two bodies have been authorised to issue such certificates and the certification process will take up to a month. As a result, import costs will increase; prices on building materials from EU countries will rise; the assortment of building materials will reduce; imports will lower by circa USD 50 mln per year; prices on locally produced building materials will go up due to the reduced competition, and ‘grey’ imports of building materials will grow.
